Steve van Eck & Nicholas Papaefthimiou 

Nicholas Papaefthimiou is a trained engineer, licensed architect, and professional design/build contractor with more than 20 years of experience in architecture and development firms across the United States and in Europe. In his work as principal and founder of infillPDX LLC, Nicholas has developed, designed and constructed a diverse portfolio of single-family homes and small multiplexes. Through partnerships with various local service organizations, Nicholas has provided multiple affordable units for individuals and families transitioning out of houselessness. In 2018 he was selected by the Meyer Memorial Trust as part of the “Small Homes Northwest” pilot project, and has consulted with land trusts and policy-makers around the country on affordable housing development. A past professor of housing design and development, building science research and construction technology, Nicholas holds Masters Degrees in Architecture and in Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley and Bachelor of Science degrees in both Architecture and Urban Planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Steve van Eck is a community development professional with 10 years of real estate development experience. He currently serves the Multnomah Idea Lab, where among other projects, he collaborated with the Joint Office for Homeless Services to create “A Place for You,” an innovative approach to Permanent Supportive Housing that serves as a national model. In leadership positions at Fox + Moose Developers/ Rapaport Development, and Yale Union he co-developed small and large scale residential, commercial real estate, and community gathering spaces over a six year period. He is a former researcher for Meyer Memorial Trust and Oregon Community Foundation and holds a Bachelor’s in Community Development and a Master’s degree in Urban Economics from Portland State University.
